Executive Director, Investor Relations

Spero Therapeutics has engaged HireMinds on a search for an Executive Director, Investor Relations.

We are looking for a collaborative, enthusiastic partner responsible for developing and executing a strategic investor relations program to communicate the company’s value proposition details of its clinical pipeline to the investment community. This person will have consistent communication with the investment community and serve as Spero’s company contact. Reporting to our CFO and partnering with our Executive and Communications team, this person will drive and execute all communication of our mission, strategic objectives, and progress and is responsible for relationship management with current and prospective shareholders and financial analysts.

This position is based in our Cambridge office and welcomes hybrid work! Local candidates are expected to be on-site at least one day per week.

What You’ll Do

  • Reporting to the CFO, this person will manage external IR vendors and develop internal work processes to effectively convey Spero’s story to both sell-side analysts and buyside investors. A key component of this role is to establish and maintain a thoughtful IR process that considers cross-functional collaboration within the company, systems/databases for research/information gathering/tracking purposes, and a content externalization process that incorporates the Company’s disclosure obligations.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of Spero’s pipeline, therapeutic areas, competitive landscape, partnerships, and financials and effectively use this information to create and update investor relations content.
  • Create a targeting strategy for prospective investors; establish close relationships with key investors and analysts.
  • Lead development of investor communications, including corporate presentation  decks, earnings releases, earnings and other conference call scripts, management Q&As, content for the investor tab of the corporate website, and the business section of Form 10-K. Contribute to Board materials, other company press releases, and SEC documents as needed (e.g., Form 8-Ks, Form S-3 fillings)
  • Track and analyze sell-side models, including comparison to internal forecasts, to assess expectations and determine implications for analyst and investor communications.
  • Work with other leaders across the company to understand competitor performance and industry, regulatory, and other relevant trends to inform differentiated corporate messaging.
  • Continual refinement of messaging and market positioning based on company performance, market perception, expectations, peer performance, and relative valuation.
  • Organize and execute investor conferences and company events.
  • Originate and maintain investor-facing materials, including financial results press releases, investor presentations, conference call scripts, Q&As, IR website, and backgrounders.
  • Work in close partnership with the internal legal team to review IR-related external communications and related 8-K filings.
  • Maintain master investor and target communication list and target lists; track all investor interactions. Maintain a repository of investor and analyst feedback.
  • Lead development of briefing materials for management in preparation for investor meetings
  • Provide Regulation FD and general communication training to all designated company spokespersons.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the investment community (investors, analysts, exchange representatives, etc.), maintain a database of interactions, and convey sentiments and feedback to management.
  • Work closely with the finance and legal teams to manage deliverables for the annual shareholder meeting.

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; advanced degree a plus.
  • Minimum 12-15 years of experience in investor relations; public company and biotech/pharmaceutical industry experience required.
  • Ability to relay key corporate messages to external stakeholders and must have an interest in understanding science and drug development.
  • Proven ability to plan, organize, and execute IR-related events.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, establish, and maintain relationships with healthcare investors and research analysts.
  • Knowledge of SEC and disclosure requirements.
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and strategic, with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to collaborate effectively with executives and senior leaders; able to work collaboratively across functions.
  • Willing to be an individual contributor and a team player; self-motivated and resourceful.
  • Must always be able to maintain confidentiality and use discretion.
  • Possesses an attention to detail and time-sensitivities.
