Senior Scientist, Off-Target Characterization and Genomics
South San Francisco, California

Who Are We?

Our client’s company is based on the science of one of the original CRISPR co-inventors who then furthered the technology so that DNA does not need to be cut to accomplish gene regulation.

We are looking for exceptional team members who want an active role in building a rapidly growing biotech.

Roles and responsibilities:

As a Senior Scientist, you will enable the characterization and quantitation of unintended off-target genome editing with CRISPR using high throughput next-generation sequencing (NGS) and other methodologies. You will work on various genetic disease areas across different stages of therapeutic development.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Conceptualize, thoroughly plan, and present study project plans with little oversight.
  • Evaluate, develop, and execute genome-wide off-target characterization experiments to support guide characterization for therapeutic development
  • Efficiently use Amplicon-seq, RNA-seq, Whole Exome-seq, Whole Genome-seq, Genome-wide seq, Translocation-seq, ChIP-Seq, and genome-wide methylation assay for off-target characterization and other studies
  • Apply extensive scientific knowledge and broad laboratory skills to execute complex bench experiments using a variety of molecular biology, cell biology, and general laboratory techniques.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize, both independently and in collaboration, with colleagues
  • Accurately document project and sample information, protocols, and experimental details
  • Collaborate with Quality Control and Quality Assurance teams to generate technical study reports supporting regulatory filings (IND or CTA equivalent)
  • Participate in regulatory interaction meetings, responses to questions from regulators, and strategic communication of off-target characterization results.
  • Interact with and assist other members of the team as needed to meet research objectives.
  • Oversees activities and assists with training more junior research personnel.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. degree (in Biology, Genetics, or a related life sciences field), 3+ years of NGS technologies and workflows experience in the industry

  • Participate in the preparation of marketing collateral to support product launches including peer-reviewed publications, application notes, protocols, webinars, and posters.
  • Previous experience with DNA analysis/genomics applications in NGS, qPCR, or CRISPR is required.
  • Previous experience with publishing scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals is preferred.
