Senior Principal or Director, Biology
Hybrid / Full-time

Our client, a NYC & Boston-based pre-clinical stage biotech pioneering small molecule medicines for targeted protein stabilization, is seeking a Director of Biology with a strong background in biology/chemical biology to join their expanding high-profile team with the goal of advancing research programs from early discovery to proof-of-concept and beyond.

Key Responsibilities
• Establish robust screening assays to support hit identification, hit to lead and lead optimization programs
• Operate as Biology Project lead and work in a multidisciplinary team including a Chemistry Project lead
• Design and lead experimental design and work with internal team and CROs for compound profiling and advancement to candidate
• Communicate on-going work and progress to project teams and company leadership team
• Implement and maintain cross-functional and cross site relationships to align resources with project goals
• Work with collaborators both internal and external to effectively advance program and communicate project progress.
• Stay abreast of the latest scientific understanding in project specific biology from target validation to clinical data.
• Proactively evaluate new technologies and identify, evaluate, and manage external vendors or assay vendors and studies.
Qualifications
• Ph.D. in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemical Biology or a related field
• 10+ years experience in drug discovery/development in a biotech or pharmaceutical environment
• Experience leading a program from hit to lead or lead optimization
• Experience establishing robust screening assays to support hit identification, hit to lead and lead optimization programs
• Expert in performing cellular mode of action (MOA) studies with small molecules, including experience in target engagement, cellular potency / selectivity, and evaluation of molecular interactions.
• Experience with liquid handling and automation for high throughput screening is a plus.
• Ability to independently plan, execute, and analyze complex experiments.
• Strong presentation and communication skills, both oral and written.
