Senior Communications Manager

Our client is a UK-based consulting firm that partners with life science leaders to accelerate performance, facilitate change and enhance leadership success.  We have been engaged by them to find a Senior Communications Manager to work with one of their US-based clients on a six-month fixed contract (4-5 days/week).  Ideally, the successful candidate would be located in the vicinity of the tri-state area in order to support the senior team on-site once the team returns to the office (depending on COVID-19 situation developments), however we will also consider candidates in the Northeast.



This role requires deep pharmaceutical/life sciences industry communications experience in two key areas:

  • Managing and delivering internal communications within global, matrix-managed organizations
  • Supporting a senior team to deliver internal communications for a significant culture change



The assignment is global in nature, but the role is based in the US and most of the work is done in US time zones. This role requires a combination of program planning and execution, content creation and the ability to navigate a large and complex organization. Sound judgement, the ability to build trusted relationships with senior in-house stakeholders and extensive communications and change management experience are a must.



Communications to date have been managed by the consultancy from Europe. As the programs have developed, it’s clear that having a US-based communications manager within the client’s organization will be more efficient in delivering outcomes, not least because of the ability to work in the same time zones as the key decision makers.



More on the work

  • Maintain and evolve an internal news flow planning tool to support the key milestones, events and activities occurring within the client organization
  • Deliver internal communications content for each milestone within the news flow (e.g. working with video specialists to develop internal videos, blog posts, quote cards, emails on behalf of leaders etc.)
  • Plan and execute internal events such as town halls
  • Brief and liaise with client stakeholders to progress internal news flow and program deliverables
  • Help drive communications around major internal engagement and cultural change programs with senior leaders, and deliver content for these programs in partnership with the consulting firm




  • 10+ years of experience in employee communications and engagement, including use of digital / social channels and tools, in consultancy and/or in house in the pharmaceutical and/or life sciences industry
  • Experience working with cultural change programs
  • A track-record working with senior decision-makers and a proven ability to influence business decisions
  • A recognized capability to build effective working relationships with senior managers

  • Have excellent written communication skills, with the ability to adapt to the style and tone established by the organization’s leader
  • Be able to craft a story for presentations and events, as well as implement, e.g. in PowerPoint (with design agency support, as needed for larger audiences)
  • Understand the complexities of a new and growing specialty medical organization within a large pharmaceutical company
