Senior Scientist, Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS)

HireMinds is seeking an expert in hands-on sequencing assay development to join a pioneering team in the gene editing world here in Cambridge, MA. In this hands-on role you’ll play a pivotal role within a team working with the Principal Scientist that leads the team, focusing on advancing genomics solutions, from developing cutting-edge NGS assays to characterizing genome editing outcomes. This position presents a unique opportunity to lead hands-on sequencing work and shape the future of genomics research within an innovative and well-funded biotech. You should be in your “happy place” in the lab and committed to finding hands-on strategies in the development, trouble-shooting, and efficient throughputs of the NGS assays in this role.
You’ll Be Responsible For:
- Hands-on development, optimization, and implementation of NGS-based assays, such as amplicon sequencing, single-cell genomics/transcriptomics, long reads, and emerging sequencing technologies.
- Keeping abreast of advancements in NGS technologies and contribute strategically to their application to daily work-flows.
- Design, conduct, and troubleshoot wet lab experiments involving sample preparation, library construction, and sequencing.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on NGS assays, collaborating independently and with peers to support project needs.
- Work closely with computational sciences to assess data quality, facilitate data interpretation, and innovate analysis pipelines.
- Collaborate with high throughput amplicon sequencing teams to refine workflows and pioneer next-generation systems including: single-cell RNAseq, AMP-seq, and other platforms.
- Partner with automation, software engineering, and computational sciences to scale new assays effectively.
- Mentor and guide junior scientists, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented team environment.
- Document experimental procedures, maintain meticulous lab records, and prepare technical reports and presentations.
You’ll Bring With You:
- PhD in Genomics with 1-4 years of relevant experience, OR
- MS with ~8 years equivalent industry Biotech/Pharmaceutical setting experience.
- Laboratory hands-on expertise in NGS library construction, quantification, sequencing, and data analysis.
- Demonstrated experience in mentoring or managing junior scientists as a hands-on member of the lab team.
- Familiarity with liquid handling automation, particularly with Hamilton systems, is desirable.
- Knowledge of genome editing technologies, such as CRISPR, would be advantageous.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills, coupled with exceptional time management and attention to detail.
- A collaborative mindset with the ability to thrive in interdisciplinary teams.
