Head of Preclinical Development (Metabolic/Rare Disease)

Do you want to work with leaders in the rare-disease space as they bring therapeutics to market?  Do you have experience with neurobiology of obesity, diabetes, metabolic syndrome or other related areas of research?  This is an amazing opportunity at a small, public company with an approved product on market and more coming soon!  Reporting into the SVP, this role will be part of the Translational R&D team.    

The main function of this role is design, operationalization and management of pre-clinical experiments that seek to expand understanding of pharmacological assets and indications.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to;
•  Lead and oversee all aspects of company's non-clinical programs 
•  Design and manage GLP and non-GLP pre-clinical studies (pharmacology, PK/PD, DRF, TOX) for inclusion in IND filing.
•  Select and manage contract research organizations (CROs) to support non-clinical development programs.
•  Present results to management team, and other research team peers, as well as presenting externally at scientific meetings and conferences.

Qualified candidates will have a PhD in neuroscience, molecular biology, genetics or physiology and 10-15+ years of industry experience.  Must have extensive familiarity with the biology and application of in vivo pharmacodynamic rodent and NHP physiology studies within the context of metabolic disease, body weight regulation and cardiovascular safety.  Preference for those with design and interpretation of in vitro pharmacokinetic assays and experience in managing CROs for preclinical studies.
