Associate Scientist, Upstream Process Development

Our Gene Therapy client in Bedford, MA is looking to add an Associate Scientist, Upstream Process Development to their team! Associate will execute process development and characterization studies using shake flasks and bench-top bioreactors, participate in scale-up efforts, and transfer processes to CDMO/CMOs. This person will interact extensively with other groups including Downstream and Analytical teams.

  • Contribute to experimental design and execute laboratory experiments with minimal supervision
  • Perform data analysis on the performed and related activities and prepare technical reports, SOPs, and internal and external presentations
  • Assist with development activities at CDMOs and support technology transfer efforts including knowledge transfer, scale up, facility gap analysis
  • Ensure effective, high-quality, timely and appropriate documentation in electronic laboratory notebooks
  • Effectively maintain good communication and collaborate with cross-functional colleagues for successful execution/completion of project
  • Support maintenance activities for laboratory function, including preventative maintenance, raw material management, and media preparation

Requirements: 

  • B.S, M.S in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Biochemistry or equivalent related fields with 0-3+ years relevant industrial experience required
  • Strong hands-on experience or knowledge on cell culture, aseptic technique, analytical instrumentation (such as cell counters and metabolite analyzer), and bioreactor operations is required
  • Experience with viral vector production, statistical software, technology transfer to CDMO/manufacturing facility, and process characterization experience is a plus
  • Take initiative, being willing to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated capacity to handle multiple tasks and demands
