The Role
Principal Scientist/Associate Director – RNA editing therapeutic development and AAV gene therapy. As a leader in our discovery and early development team, you will:
- Lead a team of Scientists and Research Associates to develop RNA editing gene therapies
- Collaborate with our growing development team
- Conduct hypothesis-driven therapeutic design and screening efforts informed by internal data packages and knowledge of RNA processing phenomena
- Conduct pooled screening efforts to identify optimal therapeutic designs
- Design and oversee in vitro and in vivo studies in models of human disease with both viral and nonviral delivery vectors
Your decisions will directly inform filings with the FDA in pursuit of clinical development of new human therapeutics.
How You Will Contribute
You will be responsible for optimizing our technology platform as well as identifying new capabilities. This is a highly collaborative position in which you will coordinate execution of strategy by integrating across the many disciplines represented within the company, from molecular biology to disease biology, automation, high-throughput sequencing, and in vivo modeling. This position will involve 70% bench work and 30% scientific management with this ratio shifting towards more management over time.
Requirements
- PhD in biology, biochemistry, biomedical engineering, molecular biology, or a related field
- Intimate knowledge of RNA biology with publications in the field of RNA processing, RNA splicing, RNA editing, or related fields
- Strong track record leading cross-functional projects
- 5+ years experience leading a scientific team in an industrial setting
- 7+ years experience in molecular biology
- experience in gene therapy (preclinical studies involving AAV and/or LNP)
Nice to have
- Prior experience on teams that have successfully advanced research to the clinic
- Background in inherited retinal disease
- Background in neuroscience or neurological disease
- Computational biology/transcriptomics experience
