Our client is a premier research institution based in the Boston area, focused on pathogens and immunity. They are seeking an experienced Veterinary Research Tech to join their lab and perform a variety of hands-on animal procedures (blood draws, tissue collection, engraftment studies, dosing, etc.) and be an active participant in their cutting-edge HIV research! This is a tremendous opportunity to leverage your technical animal expertise and transition into more hands-on scientific research in infectious disease and immunology! The main function of this role is to provide technical animal work (handling, dosing, anesthesia, post-op care, etc) and research in support of advancing understanding of HIV and immunity with the ultimate goal of creating a vaccine or novel treatment modality!

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
•  Pre-procedural preparations and care of animals, anesthesia administration and/or monitoring, vaccinations, blood draws, dosing, etc.
•   Injection of human cells into immunodeficient mice and routine monitoring, blood draws, injections and vaccination of immunodeficient mice
•   Work in both BSL1 and BSL2 environments including processing of blood and tissue samples for experimental work

Requirements:
•  Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Veterinary Technology, Animal Science, or related field
•  2 years minimum of hands-on experience with rodents in a lab or research setting
•  LAT certification (LATg preferred)  

•  Basic experience with tissue processing, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, or other lab techniques preferred but not required (can be trained).

Must be authorized to work in the US indefinitely to be considered and must be commutable to the Cambridge area or able to relocate without any assistance.

The main function of this role is to provide technical assistance/support with anesthesia and surgical procedures for a variety of laboratory animals, mostly large animals like pigs, sheep, rabbits, etc.

• Assist veterinarians or investigators in various surgeries and treatment protocols

• Prepare and sterilize surgery packs

• Administer medications and provide pre/peri/post-surgical monitoring

Qualifications include but are not limited to:

Our client is a biomedical research facility in the greater Boston area looking to hire a full-time/permanent junior Veterinary Technician to grow within the role! If you have a passion for working with animals in support of exciting research across multiple fields like neuroscience and diabetes, and are looking to get your foot in the door with a great Lab Animal Medicine program, then apply now before it's too late! This group actively develops it's staff (including AALAS certifications) and has low turnover. This position requires previous experience with animal care/handling, husbandry, and health checks. The ideal schedule is Sunday-Thursday but this hire is required to work 1 Saturday and 1 Sunday per month at a minimum, if Sun-Thurs cannot work. • Perform routine animal husbandry, health monitoring, and enrichment as directed

• Supply food/water for animals housed in the vivarium; report status of animal welfare, food/water consumption, appearance, and behavior to staff and veterinarians

• Clean and provide animal housing and associated materials/equipment within assigned animal rooms; support cage changes and sterile equipment operations

• Ensure regulatory compliance for animals at this facility and adhere to all safety protocols

• Assist research staff with experimental procedures like restraints, injections, euthanasia, and necropsy

Qualifications include but are not limited to:

• Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Veterinary Science/Technology, Animal Science, or related field

• Minimum of 1-3+ years of related experience lab animal medicine or the clinic

• Ability to lift up to 50lbs with or without accommodations -- pushing/pulling racks of cages, lifting bags of feed/bedding, reaching, standing, and bending

• Basic certifications are a plus such as ALAT, LAT, or CVT (required to attain LAT within 3 years of employment)

Must be authorized to work in the U.S. indefinitely to be considered and must be able to relocate without assistance.
